July 2012 GMSV imagery clearly shows it leaving I-90BL in Sheridan and heading south. There's signs at WY335, and northern WY193 junction. The closed section is unsigned. There's a sign at the south end of WY193 as well.

AASHTO haven't been asked to reroute the road either before July 2012 or since, so it is clear that US87 needs to move off I-90 and onto its 'old' route (though the old route is not signed as such from I-90).

However, should a gap be left, breaking the road in two, or is there an implied concurrency with WY193 keeping the route whole?

Edit: assuming, based on signage through Sheridan, and at north (I mean West) end of I-90BL, that US87 goes around Sheridan on the interstate, leaving at exit 25

This signage says otherwise on I-90 that US-87 goes into town:
@ Exit #20: WB I-90 w/ US-87 shield and EB I-90 w/o US-87 shield
@ Exit #23: EB I-90 w/o US-87 shield
@ Exit #25: WB I-90 w/o US-87 shield

But then I see this signage where US-87 heads South from the I-90 BL and several others of those in-town, so, who f'ing knows. Confused And I did find this sign (I assume it's the one you were talking about) that says US-87 stays on I-90 around town....

Maybe attempting to contact WYDOT might be worthwhile here.

Reading through the Maintenance Section Reference Book (big .pdf) and the Sheridan County section, the I-90 log has US87 staying on until the US14 interchange (25). The E-W link from I-90 exit 25 to the US 14/87 BUS, I-90 BUS, US 87 and WY 334 crossroads is US14/87 BUS and I-90 BUS, meaning two gaps in US87 - one very short one in Sheridan, the other a longer one where the roadway has been closed.

I took a look at the US 87 routing (GMSV and the reference book) to see why Si wants to split the route into 3 sections and to see the complications noted above. Like those above, I found lots of contradictions.

For the landslide "gap," the reference book doesn't completely agree between the Sheridan and Johnson county route logs or even within them. I see hints of both US 87 still running on the blocked road and of that road having a new designation of WY 346 on the south side. I also see hints of both US 87 running along WY 193 and it not doing so. In both of these, one option looks like an older one (US 87 is the blocked road) and the other a newer one (US 87 is continuous and runs along WY 193). I think we should have US 87 running along WY 193 without a gap since it is the newer option. WY's DOT is moving in this direction even if AAHSTO isn't on board. And WY DOT also seems to have decided that the blocked road is too prone to landslides to bother fixing the road, so they aren't fixing it to make it viable for a US highway.

In Sheridan, it looks convincing enough to me (despite some inconsistent signs) from both GMSV and the reference book that the variety of US 87 running through the middle of Sheridan is US 87 Business, and so US 87 must run elsewhere on the north side of Brundage Lane. The reference book says (as Si pointed out) that US 87 follows I-90 from Exit 25 westward. I think the reference book is ruling out the possibility of a change in the opposite direction (that in-town road *was* US 87 Business (and other numbers) but is *now* US 87).

That leaves the question of what Brundage Lane is between Coffeen Avenue and I-90. Continuity says this must be where US 87 goes, and the reference book says it is instead US 87 Business (and other things) without a mention of US 87. There are no signs in GMSV that I see that confirms that either of US 87 or US 87 Business runs along this part of Brundage Lane. So I don't know whether the "US 87 Bus" in the reference book is correct (causing a strange situation) or an error (it's supposed to be US 87). Unless more info is available that points clearly to a different routing, I think US 87 should be connected (implied concurrency applies) along Brundage Lane.

As for US 87 Business on Brundage Lane, I really don't know what to do with it there. Maybe try a post on AARoads to find someone with newer info, or even contact the DOT if you want.

Anyway, this is the best I can deduce. Did I overlook anything that more clearly defines a different routing for US 87?

So merge the files back into one. OK. Will do.
