Just out of curiosity, shouldn't AR 549 be also Fut I-49? Along the US 71 corridor in Louisiana north of Shreveport, Future I-49 Corridor are posted as of last July. Also, on the state map at the rest area north of Texarkana, I vaguely remember showing I-49 as proposed on the Texas side of Texarkana, presumably following AR 245 west to TX LP 151 and north on US 59 to a new alignment north.
On a related note, I'd think that AR Fut 130 should be extended south to AR 549 instead of ending at US 71. |

The route as it is currently is correct. Future I-130 doesn't go past US-71 as far as the AASHTO is concerned.

Quote: | The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials denied the part from US 71 west to Texas, as "the state of Texas has not submitted a companion application for a suitable terminus in Texas", but the piece from US 71 north to I-30 was approved on December 8, 2000 as Future I-130. |

I couldn't find any Future I-49 approvals in Arkansas when I looked into this several months ago. |

Anyone know of any new info from AASHTO or FHWA about FI-130 becoming a longer FI-49 at the official level? |

An AHTD map of Miller County dated 1/14/2013
http://www.arkansashighways.com/programs_contracts_division/gis/Current_JobStatusMaps/job_status_miller.pdf
shows that part of FI-130/FI-49 is already completed but not opened just north of I-30 in Texarkana to US 59/US 71 at the Texas border. The section from I-30 southwest to AR 245 is still under construction. This makes it clear that the part of AR 245 north of Arkansas Blvd. is not going to be part of the Interstate, whichever number it will get.
I'm going to truncate FI-130 and leave it as FI-130, since Arkansas has AASHTO approval for FI-130 and not FI-49, even if it looks likely that some day this highway will be I-49 without ever being I-130. What's approved by AASHTO is a section from I-30 to US 71, but the northernmost part is the part still under construction. |

I-49 is now approved in AR in both normal and future flavors.
http://route.transportation.org/Documents/Arkansas%20AM2013.pdf
All of I-540 (north of I-40) will become I-49 with I-49 continuing north of the current end of I-540 to US-71. No idea if they are going to renumber the exit numbers at this time for this segment.
Also all of AR-549 will become I-49 too. There will be no problems here with any exit numbers changing.
No idea when the shields will go up, but I bet no later than May '14 as that's when AR predicts they will have the Doddridge to LA segment finished per the linked PDF above.

Given any thought to taking over LA & AR maintenance? ;D |

Fixed.

Wish I could, but with the way my "offline" life has been going lately, there's no way I could to be honest.

I'll wait a little longer to see if any I-49 signs are going up along the non-Future sections. I haven't found anything definite yet about that. |

Don't know if I had been seeing things, but I think I heard that shields will be going up in the Spring, at least on the AR-549 part. But I can't seem to find that post again @ AARoads. |

On AARoads, AHTD wrote: | The Future I-49 signs will be located at the project termini of the soon-to-be-opened completed portion of the Bella Vista Bypass and installed on green destination and distance boards. The Future I-49 signs will have the word "Future" where the word "Interstate" normally appears. The BVB route markers will be State Highway 549.
We will actually - and you read it here on AAROADS first - start changing out the I-540 signs Monday. Two crews will depart Little Rock Monday morning. One will head directly to the BVB and start installing signs. The other crew will start changing route markers on the northbound lanes just north of I-40. The overhead sign structures will be modified sometime in the next 30 days because we have to schedule crews and lane closures to make that happen.
BVB will officially open to traffic Tuesday morning before noon. |

On AARoads, AHTD wrote: | New exit numbers for the ENTIRE I-49 corridor in Arkansas have already been logged, however these will not be signed until after the I-49 route has been approved and opened to traffic from U.S. Highway 71 North of Texarkana to the Louisiana state line. |
As for the Texarkana AR549 segment becoming I-49 (either proper or Future) I'm uncertain if this has the go-ahead, and have posted to AARoads for clarification. David Backlin seems to think it will be in June?
So we'll have:
• Existing AR549, which may or may not (also) be (Future) I-49.
• New I-49: formerly part of I-540, plus US71 northward two more interchanges to the north end of US71Bus.
• A second (unless existing AR549 is redesignated) segment of AR549, on the Bella Vista Bypass, which will also be I-49Fut.
Regarding the new AR549 on the BVB, I guess we don't really need to add this to USANSF... IIRC USANSF routes were originally only added if they connected to the existing freeway network. (Or make that the existing highway network, if SC 22, 30 & 31 and TN111 are any indication...) This route would be redundant, also being covered as a Future Interstate. Thoughts?
Existing files to edit (just the NWA 540 -> 49 conversion, disregarding anything that may (not) happen in Texarkana):
I-540: Truncated to the segment south of I-40, with the points north of I-40 being offloaded to I-49.
US62: Relabel points I-540(##) -> I-49(##)
US71: Relabel points I-540(##) -> I-49(##)
US71BusFay: I-540(85) -> I-49
US412: I-540 -> I-49 |

I think we should either way 'save' the ar.i049 file name for the Texarkana leg and give the 'I-540' segment the named version. |

The "I-540" leg is ~73 miles, vice ~38 for the Texarkana leg. |

But the I-49 'Southern' segment would be primary per mile markers. |

I-540 bit will also extend southwards to Texarkana over time, whereas the Texarkana bit will not get any longer or absorb any other segments. Clearly it is that bit that needs to be I-49Tex, with the rest I-49.
You can have it go
la.i049
ar.i049tex
tx.i049
ar.i049
mo.i049
very easily. |
