|
|
I'm not sure about this, given that I'm unfamiliar with how well SC signs their routes, but I found two different things that lead me to believe US521 may have been rerouted onto the US15/521 Connector route (plus the southern part of Guignard Pkwy).
First bit of evidence: check out the GMSV images of the turn onto US401. This one's from May 2014, this one's from June 2014. If you look well in the background, you'll notice the US521 shield in the background is there in May, but missing in June, leaving only a US401 shield.
Second bit of evidence: these GMSV pics of these signs (Sign 1|Sign 2) were taken in April. As my trip in October, the "TO" banners are gone. This sign (Sign 3) at the northern end of the Connector route still stands (taken Sep 2014), but depending on how one reads the sign, the "TO" banner could read only for the US15 shield and not the US521 shield.
Caveat: There is the possibility that all these changes could be temporary, and a result of the US15 bridge just south of SC763 (over the RR tracks) being closed. Still, it seems a lot of trouble to go through change/remove signage, rather than cover it up and post detours.
Anyway, that's all I know. I have to admit, I selfishly hope US521 is NOT rerouted....as it stands now I have US521 clinched, and it'd be disappointing to have to go down there just for that small section.

Can confirm via StreetView (June '14) imagery that US-521 shields were removed from all assemblies at the US-15/401/521 intersection.
The 'Fall' AASHTO meeting hasn't happened yet (will be on 11/20/14), so maybe we'll find out more then if SCDOT submits an application for the possible reroute. |

The 2009 Official shows the move...
http://info.scdot.org/sites/GIS/GISMapdl/StateMap_2009.pdf
On the SCDOT website, the 2005 Sumter County map does NOT show it and the 2009 Sumter City map DOES show it moved.
From home I can now observe that the 2008 Official showed the former routing of US 521 through Sumter.

Now with that date between 2008-2009 given, I looked in my AASHTO folder and found that there was a request submitted in the 2009 Fall meeting for this reroute.
I wonder why it took them till this year to change the signage then.
Anyways, I'll work on making this change once Tim has caught up updating the files on the site since I don't want to do it and then have to wait 3+ months for it to be digested while list files keep getting updated creating possible label conflicts. |
