Tim, not that this is really critical at this stage of the game, but in WLS M48, you use the M4_W tag for the M4/M48 interchange; as it's the only instance of M48 meeting M4 in Wales, is the _W suffix needed? And if so, you'll want to fix ENG M48 -- the M4 tag there should then read M4_E, not M4_W.

Some other things that showed up in the GBR route files:

M4: Exits 36-38; there's a shape point out of order
M6: Exits 15&16, Exits 23&24; duplicate points (watch the shape point ordering when you make the change)
M42: Exits 5&6; misplaced shape point
M45: A45 and shape point in wrong locations
M49: points out of order (it's a short file, you'll see it when it comes up)

On a similar vein, a lot of the Ax(M) roads have suffixes in the route name. Given that, other than the A1(M), there is no A road with more than 1 Motorway section, it seems silly to have A3MWat, A329MWin and so on. Just A3M, etc would do for these.

Also Britain related, the M6 doesn't end on the border - though I guess it's easier than having SCT M6 (maybe, though only by signage) or ENG A74M (legally the case) that aren't even a mile long.

One final thing - how can the M49's points be in the wrong order - there's two points, no junction numbering to give an order and UK roads don't really have any notion of start at a certain place (unless they have junction numbers or have one end in London or Edinburgh).

Welcome to the Forum!

Where does the M6 give way to A74(M) if not at the border? J22 on the Scotland side?

The M49 issue was fixed awhile ago, that's why you don't see anything wrong with it now. There's a hidden, intermediate point on the route to help get its shape right, and initially it was placed in the wrong spot, giving the route a Z-shaped path.

Thanks for the feedback, and let us know here if you spot anything else that's amiss.

At the big A74(M) signs at j45 that have been there for about 10 years. Until December last year (50 years to the day that the first bit of the M6, and the UK motorway network opened) the A74(M) ended at the A6071, and the M6 at the A7. Our Cumberland Gap was still the standards that the A74 used to be pre-upgrade. While the Scottish authorities had built their bit, and 200yrds of our bit, tying it up properly, the English authorities didn't care much - even when Scotland were willing to plan and build it for them.

They then built the new (somewhat offline, hence my log in that area having a gap in the English M6 between j44 and j45) road, it ended where the A74(M) ended, ie what is now called j45. Signage-wise (even ignoring that the A74(M) was to be M6 and lots of the signs had little plates covering M6 up with A74(M), that have now fallen off), then signage-wise the M6 ends at j22, as the slip roads from the A75 and the A74(M) lead inescapably to the M6. The legal standing of the road has the M6 ending at j45, with the A74(M) heading across the border. The Highways Agency (which only deals with England), still have the A74(M) as entering England.

Ah, that makes sense now.
