According to the AASHTO, PennDOT can post I-376 shields on current I-279, US-22/30, PA-60 back up to I-76 on January 1st, 2009. I wonder if PennDOT will be ready for that.

Does that include an I-376 BL on PA 60 Bus?

I haven't heard anything official on a possible BL I-376. But I sure hope they create it. We might find out that PA will be asking for permission to post one in the next AASHTO meeting.

I've not heard the official word on this, but I'm assuming that I-279 will be truncated to downtown and not overlapped west to I-79. Is this true?

Welcome to the group, Alex.

That's one of several items to figure out:
- I-376 direction? Probably west-east.
- I-376 west end? I've heard I-76, US 422, and I-80 as answers.
- I-279 truncation or concurrency with I-376? Delayed truncation might make sense?
- New exit numbers for I-376 and I-279?
- Confirmation of I-376 BL on current PA 60 Bus
- Fate of PA 60 designation, incl. non-Interstate sections?
- PA 60 Bus decommissioned?

Guys, I live here in Pittsburgh. As soon as the changes happen, I'll let you all know. Wink

As for this part, it will be West-East. Some new signs on PA-28 for that new ramp onto I-279 already talk about the I-376 extension dirrecting which is the best dirrection to go to access either East I-376 or West I-376. Now, I haven't seen the signs yet because I haven't been on PA-28 lately, but that's the report.

I would really be surprised to see the change take place by New Year's Day with how District 11 is playing it close to the vest, and the only signage along the Parkway West acknowledging the change has been the future corridor signs.

Definitely it will be changed in the books from SR 0022 and 0060 to 0376. As for on the road, I would say only minor changes might happen such as directional assemblies at interchanges having 376 shields added and perhaps adding them alongside PA 60's markers. Ironically, the PTC just recently began posting PA Turnpike 60 shields which will only end up being replaced.

Well, signage for I-376 might be going up this weekend. According to KDKA, overnight Friday-Saturday, they are closing the Parkway West @ I-79 for overhead signage work.

One of my contributors just sent me a couple of pictures of signs approaching the new ramp. One is an interchange sequence sign which has "I-279 South to I-376 West - Ft Pitt Bridge" and "I-579 South to I-376 East - Veterans Bridge" listed.

I happened to be in that area awhile ago myself and I have pictures as well of the new signage on PA-28.

No news on the news here about it. Plus I've seen a few traffic cameras and still see the I-279 on the BGS.

The lack of an update to my 376 and other related pages pretty much sums up what happened, or did not happen in this case, on New Year's Day which I suspected would be the result. No mention of an impending switch even on the District 11 site.

I am planning to take a drive out to see if any changes, such as the LWSs being converted from SR 22 to 376, have taken place sometime next week once there is a break in the snow.

The only route change I've heard about recently involved PA 82 and PA 345.

Just got an e-mail back from PennDOT.

"Thank you for your January 2, 2009 email regarding the redesignation of several routes to I-376. We are currently working on several highway and signing improvement projects that will allow us to request final approval to redesignate portions of I-279, US22/30 and PA 60 to I-376. As part of these projects, the portion of I-279 between I-79 and the Fort Pitt Bridge will be redesignated I-376. The portion from the Fort Pitt Bridge to I-79 will get new exit numbers. PA 60 will end at the interchange with US22/30 near the Showcase Cinema in Robinson Township and the current portion of Business 60 will be redesignated Business Loop I-376."
