Tim, what was your source for the routings of the U.S. highways in downtown DC? Specifically, your source for:

- US 1's connection between Constitution Ave and Rhode Island Ave
- US 29's connection between K St NW and Rhode Island Ave
- US 50's connection between Constitution Ave and New York Ave

These data files are 3.5 years old. I was probably using Google Maps, a Rand McNally atlas, and an American Map atlas.

Looking at them today, they all seem to agree with with my .ggm data for US 1 and US 50. If the ConAve pt. @ 7th St NW looks questionable, it's because it's the end of a couplet with 6th & 9th Sts. NW, so the point went about halfway in between. Plus whatever old data I was gathering appears to be slightly misaligned from the present street data.

It looks like I got US 29 wrong. 11th St NW instead of Vermont Ave NW? I vaguely remember someone telling me US 29 was wrong before, but I can't remember if they got me to change US 29 to what I currently have or what the case was. The DC DOT maps I looked at tonight seem worthless for US highways.

Okay, I just wanted to check before I made changes.

Aside from cleaning up the coordinates, I'm probably going to keep the US 1 and US 50 lists as-is.

For US 29, although the major national atlases show it turning from K St NW, onto 11th St NW, I believe it actually follows 13th St NW...based on both the ADC maps (which are typically pretty good), but backed up by NHPN shapefiles from FHWA.

Unfortutately, those NHPN shapefiles are blank when it comes to the US 1 and US 50 routings, probably because of the 6th/9th St split you mentioned. This is also where I have to take the ADC maps with a grain of salt...they have both US 1 and US 50 following 7th St NW (no one-way couplet) between Constitution and New York Ave, with US 1 continuing along 7th to Rhode Island Ave.

How about New Hampshire Ave for US 29? Here it is at Dupont circle:
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=38.909915,-77.042731&spn=0,359.99426&z=18&layer=c&cbll=38.909997,-77.042783&panoid=ULux9aCwm8u768v478hqZA&cbp=12,349.01,,0,5

Several signs around the circle if you drive around it.

The DC highway files are my duty. Did anything else need an update there?

That sign is a relic from back when US 29 did use New Hampshire Ave. Which from what I can tell hasn't been since the mid-80s.

Didn't realize you still were "keeping" the DC files. Thought I was taking them since I live here...

Well, I'm fine with you taking them over. Living there is a great reason. You just had to ask first. I just insist on only one person being in charge of any set of files to avoid one person undoing the changes another makes.

I'll update the data folder tonight so you can swipe the files. I think the only things that have recently changed were I-295 (truncated this past week) and I-695 (longer ago).

Got a link to the shape files? Every map I've seen shows the 11th St NW routing, and none show it following 13th St NW. Google Street View shows no signs around either street - nor really anywhere between I-66 and north of MD 410.

Here's the FHWA shapefiles.

The 2009 ADC Greater DC atlas is the map I have that shows the 13th St routing.
