It exists:

Or at least, it did in 2000, if nothing else.

Google would have me believe it's for the most part the same as 23Bus, save for a little bit at the NE end. What did you come across when researching VA?

Well, when I did the VA US routes (now turned over to Froggie), I mostly used the VA Route Log (one of the few states to have one). And it never mentioned a Alt Business US-58 route. Thus, I never made it.

Street View imagery is sparse, but I did see a a double bannered shield (triple if you count the EAST ;D) at the eastern freeway exit. I'd say add`er in!

There's a single sign for the route in question. However, per VDOT, it is officially VA 283.

So no, I do not intend to create such a list.

Also worth noting is how when in 2007 Iowa asked for Recognition of a [pre-existing] Business Route on U.S. Route 34 in Ottumwa, AASHTO took note, commenting, "What happens to the Old Bus.? 34 east of the New Bus. 34?"

We've had that situation twice in Virginia...oddly enough both times along the same route: US 29 in both Danville and Lynchburg. In both cases, the "old Business Route" became a state highway route...VA 293 in Danville, and VA 163 in Lynchburg.
