According to http://echo4.bluehornet.com/ct/3164209:3531963217:m:1:72353642:E18CECE5FBA298616268D999460FB31E
the Future banners will be coming off of the section of I 73 north of I 40 in Greensboro NC. The gist of the article is that the Greensboro Metropolitan Planning Organization had finalized the routing of I 73 through Guilford County for future construction. This situation is similar to the removal of the Future banners on I 485 north of I 85 in Charlotte. I'll keep my on the situation. _________________ Dave Filpus

Will this affect the part of Future I-73 south of I-40/85 toward the cosigned I-73/74, making it bona fide I-73? Or are the issues there about substandardness? |

My guess is this will only effect the Future I-73/I-840 segment. Heck, we might even see the Future banners be removed for I-840 as well because of it being with I-73 here. But we will not know till somebody has time to do a field check. |

Wow. That's shocking to hear that. I wonder how they are going to renumber the few exits that are on current I-40/I-73. Anybody have any estimates on what they might be?
Oh and Dave, sorry, but I beat you to posting about this on MTR. |

We'll see what happens first. Given that it's Interstate, FHWA will get involved and not just AASHTO. _________________ Froggie

Apparently I-40 is too noisy, but I-73 alone + new landscaping wouldn't be. |
Did you happen to notice that they mentioned what the exit numbers will become in that article? Also, they are going to put US-421 onto the bypass now (I-73/I-85). Hope they get that approved via the AASHTO. If you missed it, here it is:
Quote: | Changing the green I-40 Business signs back to the blue I-40 signs
Re-labeling the exits along I-40 as Exit 212 (I-40/73) to Exit 227 (I-40/85) |
Quote: | Re-labeling the exits along I-73 as Exit 103 (I-73/40 interchange) to Exit 95 (I-73/U.S. 220 interchange) |
Quote: | Rerouting U.S. 421 to run concurrently with I-73 and parts of I-85 |
Quote: | Signs for the I-85 Business route and the I-85 exits will remain the same. |

Here is the official NCDOT news release on the Greensboro resigning:
https://apps.dot.state.nc.us/pio/releases/details.aspx?r=1854
The page has a link to a pdf for a map of the changes with all of the exit numbers.
I 40 Business Greensboro is decommissioned.
I 40 is going back to its old route with I 40 exit numbers.
I 73 has exit numbers 95 - 103, but no exit numbers north of I 40.
I 85 Business Greensboro uses I 40 exit numbers in its multiplex with I 40.
US 421 is rerouted to multiplex with I 85 and I 73.
US 70/29/220 need new exit numbers, where they multiplex with I 40. _________________ Dave Filpus

That's a change from the original exit numbers. I think that will be a smart move because using the old Bussiness I-85 exit numbers on it wasn't a good idea. When they had move I-85 off of it, they should have originally given it I-40 numbers instead of I-85 Bus numbers. |

When they did the renumbering for Business I 85, I 40 was scheduled to be moved to the bypass (which it was). Renumbering to I 40 exit numbers would have required another renumbering later. NCDOT actually planned ahead in this case. _________________ Dave Filpus

The I-40 move and un-move had no AASHTO intervention, so I think we just need confirmation that the signs are changed back and I-40 BL is gone.
This piece of I-73 is supposed to be Future I-73 now, so that makes it vanish from this project. I'll handle it, but maybe not immediately. |

I'd just leave it...just like I'd leave both I-140 and I-540 as-is. _________________ Froggie

I'm taking the opportunity to experiment with including Future I-73 and Future I-540 - as dumb as they are as Future routes rather than full Interstates - with the normal Interstates.
Have I-73/Former I-40's new exit numbers been announced for the newest part of the Greensboro loop? |

We could also try experimenting with Future I-22 if you want to. I have a completed AL I-22 Future file ready.
Also, if you do change the I-73 into a Future file, we have to include I-840 if you add the part North of I-40 of I-73. No and's, if's, or but's because it's multiplexed with I-73 North of I-40.
As for the exit numbers:
Quote: | Re-labeling the exits along I-73 as Exit 103 (I-73/40 interchange) to Exit 95 (I-73/U.S. 220 interchange) |
Here's the complete rundown of the new exit numbers from a PDF I got off of NCDOT's site before they removed it. I can also e-mail you the PDF if you want me to Tim.
I-73_N:
220(40) > 95
219(40) > 97A
218(40) > 97B
214(40) > 102
212(40) > 103
(the section above I-40 will use Future I-840 exit numbers)
2(840F) http://maps.google.com/?ll=36.089412,-79.914908&spn=0.026912,0.05579
4(840F) http://maps.google.com/?ll=36.116947,-79.907864&spn=0.026902,0.05579
I-40: (using the labels from I-40Bus) (plus don't forget to change the labels in I-85Bus)
24 > 212 (but you should already have this point correct because of I-40 leaving the area here in the "past".)
25 > 213
26 > 214
28 > 216
29 > 217
30 > 218
31 > 219A
36B(85B) > 219B
37(85B) > 220
38(85B) > 221A
39(85B) > 221B
41(85B) > 223
43(85B) > 226
44A(85B) > 227
44B(85B) > 131B(85) |
