Looks like Missouri's portion of I-49 is set to be officially designated on 12/12/12 at 12pm.

Reference

It appears at this time the designation will only extend from I-435 on the south side of Kansas City to I-44 in Joplin... not all the way to the AR state line as previously mentioned in the AASHTO application. Seems that Missouri is tired of waiting for Arkansas to complete it's part of the project and doesn't want an interstate to stop at the state line.

According to http://www.modot.org/southwest/news_and_information/District8Release.shtml?action=displaySSI&newsId=148419
the signage is being installed from McDonald County Route H in Pineville and I-435 on the south edge of Kansas City. This implies that I-49 will simply end in middle of McDonald County.

Yep, it certainly appears that is the plan. Initially it seemed that I-49 would only run from I-435 in Kansas City to I-44 east of Joplin... but everything coming out of MoDOT now would say that I-49 will indeed be signed all the way to Route H in Pineville, MO (the northern end of the planned Bella Vista Bypass), including a concurrency with I-44.

MoDOT even has a countdown to the unveiling ceremony...

I am aware of the change.

However, until I see an exit number listing, I have no choice but to make the labels identical to US 71. Which means that in some point in the future they are going to have to be deprecated or deleted.

Tim, what is going to be the best way to handle this?

You could talk to US71 over @ AARoads. I think he knows all the exit numbers.

Richie Kennedy appears to have an exit list north of I-44 so I at least have that. However, I don't have anything else. I will see if it's on Google Street View.

I assume I have to change all the US 71 labels while keeping the old ones, too.

And here are the exit numbers South of I-44 on I-49 per US71:

That and with the links in the post above this should be all of the I-49 exit numbers you'll need. Wink
