The NE 87 route, just added to the draft Nebraska state route set, could use a point for the famous Carhenge auto sculpture garden, major tourist attraction of Alliance NE and about halfway between NE 87's southernmost points. Carhenge is about halfway between the intersections with Madison Rd. and Logan Rd., about three miles north of NE 2. This Google Maps satellite view shows Carhenge's location on NE 87 -- Carhenge's signature circle of junked autos jutting out of the ground, and the visitor center and parking lot, are visible in the upper left corner of the map next to NE 87's northbound lanes, at the "Friends of Carhenge" label.

Carhenge was my turnaround point on NE 87, and I suspect it is for many other travelers on NE 87.

If I were to add this point, how would I go about labeling it... CarArtRes (Car Art Reserve?)

I was thinking of bookending it with Logan & Madison if I couldn't find a good name for it, but it looks CarArtRes may work...?

I'd suggest just "Carhenge" (for the CAR's by far most famous "sculpture"). Fewer total letters, and more easily understood by users (while the official name is "Car Art Reserve," that's not how visitors usually refer to it).

If necessary to conform to CHM's preference for abbreviations, "Carh" or "Crhng" would be options.

Well, "Carhenge", technically, would be abbreviated to just "Car".

"Carh" or "Crhng" don't conform either: 4-letter labels are used either when the entire word is 4 letters (MainSt, PineSt), or when two named cross roads have different names but would have identical labels (Milford Parkway & Millville Parkway).

So we're left with either Car or CarArtRes, barring coming up with something better.

Hm. So. Until it's all sorted out, In the meantime I've added a point at Logan Rd. It seems the most likely point to access it for those coming from the west on 385/2. It's only a half mile off; don't know if that's acceptable rounding for you. Smile
And yes, those coming from 385/2 and only accessing Carhenge via Logan Rd. are still left out in the cold, unable to .list a non-zero length segment.

"LogRd" is close enough for my draft .list additions file (where I park all my entries for new route sets until they're about to go "live"). I'm not sure how much Logan Rd. (or Madison Rd.) is used by tourists to approach from the west -- all the directions I've seen tell you to approach Carhenge on NE 87 from the south via Alliance.
