|

The HB has US 41 ending in Miami Beach, at the intersection of 5th St. and Washington Ave. However, there is an "end south US 41" sign at point US1_S, at the intersection of SE 8th St. and Brickell Ave. in Miami. I saw no indication US 41 continues north of there, and also on this visit I saw none of the US 41 signage I remembered being in Miami Beach from previous visits (5th St. is signed only as FL A1A).
I can't find a shot of the sign assembly in GMSV, which has images from April 2011, so this might be a recent development. I also didn't take a photo, not knowing there was an issue about the south end of US 41 (and I've since left the area in any case).
Downtown Miami has some nonstandard US 41 signage, so I wouldn't rule out what I saw at the US 1 junction as a signing error by the city rather than the state highway department.
I think this topic might've been discussed here before, but I can't find the old discussion. |

The most current GIS data I have downloaded (from 02/16/13), still shows US-41 going across the MacArthur Causeway to the point where I have it "starting". FDOT never got approval from the AASHTO to shorten the route back to US-1, thus it still officially goes to the Beach. Thus, we have been considering this to be like US-74 in TN where it multiplexes with I-75, but is hidden to it's end @ I-24.
I also remember somebody back in the past posted to the ushwy Yahoo group that FDOT was going to repost US-41 back out to the beaches, but sadly, this hasn't happened yet. |

Cool, I'll just leave the end in my list file as is. |

Found the post I was talking about over at ushwy:

NOTE: Need to be logged into Yahoo to see, but don't think you'll need to be a member of the group to see it, but I could be wrong. |

An update from the more recent AASHTO meeting proves that FDOT and the AASHTO still think US-41 goes all the way to the beaches (last page of the PDF):
http://route.transportation.org/Documents/Florida%20AM2013.pdf
With the moment of US-1 off of Brickell and onto FL-970 & I-95 in that area, it looks like they will be signing a little portion of the route again when they remove the US-1 shields in that area.
When that happens, I'll of course update US-1 & US-41's files, but still keep US-41 going to the beach. |
