Ireland is promoting a bunch of completed freeways to motorway status in late August.

This must have been somewhat like the US in the 1960s - giant leaps in completed freeway mileage and Interstate designations.

M9 J2-4 opened:

I couldn't figure out precisely where J3 of M9 is, but I think I have it close.

M6 opened as planned:

A thread in the SABRE forum suggested that a piece of N7 was also opening this past weekend, but I haven't confirmed it yet.

NRA: New section on the M7 Limerick to Nenagh from Birdhill to Limerick (15.5km) will open by the end of next week

That's the info I learned from my first-ever look at Twitter. Shocked I had been so good at ignoring that site for so long.

The M9 opens today - bizzarely it's already on OSM as open, when the last few schemes opened at 4pm IST.

Thanks for the notice. Finally all the M9 pieces in the HB can be a single "M9".

M7 Birdhill-Limerick is open now (delayed due to subsidence in the marsh).

This means that two of the M7 routes will merge together - I'll keep the Limerick section.

There's now only two sections of motorway in Ireland under construction now - M7 between J21 and J25 and M18 Ennis-Gort - this must be the lowest for some time. However, the M17/M18 Gort-Tuam scheme has been approved, and the M20 is on it's way to approval, so Europe's fastest growing motorway network isn't stopping expansion yet, just slowing down a bit.

Outlook for the two schemes under construction:
  • M18 Crusheen - Gort 7 Nov
  • M7 Castletown - Nenagh 15 Nov
