I've posted over on AARoads on some new signage and exit numbers on I-395 and I-695.

Here are the new exit numbers on I-695, so far. A new one or two might get posted once ongoing reconstruction is done.
Quote:
Eastbound:

1A -- South Capitol Street

1B -- 6th Street SE

1C -- 11th Street SE (new exit, which apparently will be the tie-in to the bypassed old segment of the Southeast Freeway once it's rebuilt as a boulevard)

2A -- I-295 southbound

2B -- DC 295 northbound

Westbound:

1C -- left exit for Martin Luther King Ave. S.E., just after the I-295/I-695 split (this might be numbered as an exit from DC 295 rather than I-695, since it doesn't fit into the I-695 exit sequence)

2 -- M Street S.E.

1C (!? - duplicates number for MLK Ave. exit) -- I-395 north (I spotted this this 9/7/14)

unnumbered so far -- I-395 southbound

There is no urgency to any of these changes. If and when the I-695 route file is edited, its I-395 point should be synched up with its counterpart point in the I-395 route file.

There are also some daffy new exit numbers for I-395 (in particular, 2A for the I-695 junction, and 2B for the exits now labeled in the HB with waypoint 8 to the south side of Capitol Hill from both directions of I-395). Also, the Pennsylvania Ave. SE exits from DC 295 are now exits 1A-1B. I would leave those route files alone for now, since DDOT might not be finished with adding/changing exit numbers on its freeways.

It's worth noting, for accuracy's sake, that it's Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE (not Boulevard), just in case that's going to be used in the database at some point.

Right, thanks. I expect that exit ramp will continue to be treated as part of the I-695/I-295/DC 295 interchange, with no new or renamed point.

Valerie [deanej on this forum], over at aaroads.com, suggested that further exit number changes on I-395 might be forthcoming, to switch it from sequential to mileage-based numbering.

Another report on aaroads.com indicates exit number changes underway on I-295 as well, including renumbering of the Suitland Parkway interchange from 3 to 4. (I won't be out there until I'm back home from Canada in late August.) Since this still seems to be a moving target, all the more reason to wait for DDOT to finish up exit renumberings on all its freeways.

Oscar, are you going to be applying the new exit numbers to I-695 soon?

I did notice some of the exit locations will have to be tweaked some (like 'MStSE' & 'I-295/295').

I also noticed that DC I-295's locations should be re-entered as well as the are all off to the east of the center-points for each of it's exits. Only location that was properly set was the 'MD/DC' point.

With upcoming travels, I'll be too busy to do that, or even venture into D.C. for a field re-check (I'm not sure D.C.'s exit numbers have stabilized), for several weeks.

Update on my last post: Crossing DC on my way to a Super Bowl party, I noticed that one of the daffiest new exit numbers on I-395 has been changed again, to something more reasonable. All the more reason why I-395, I-695 (which seems to have no new changes), I-295, and DC 295, need a more complete field re-check when I have more time, before I update exit numbers, etc. for the DC freeway system.

Should we consider you the semi-official DC maintainer?

I'll shortly make a pull request, to update I-295, I-395, and I-695 (plus a conforming change to DC 295) in the Travel Mapping HB. I re-drove those routes this morning to confirm the changes.

A few notes, mainly due to DCDOT's still posting different exit numbers on the north/east-bound lanes than the south/west-bound lanes for the same interchange.

I-295 junction with Suitland Parkway: Currently waypoint 3 in the HB. Posted as exit 3 NB, exit 4 SB. The latter would make more sense since it's less than a mile from newly-posted exit 5. However, waypoint 4 is a label in use for what is now exit 5 (I-695/DC 295), so it's less disruptive to not renumber waypoint 3.

I-295 junction with I-695 and DC 295: Currently waypoint 4. However, it's now posted as exits 5A and 5B. So I changed it to waypoint 5, while keeping 4 and other labels in use as alternate labels.

I-395 junction with I-695: Currently waypoint 7. Recently reposted NB as exit 5, but it's still posted SB as exit 7, while the SB freeeway uses exit 5 for the 6th St. SW exit (which is currently waypoint 5 in the HB). No point relabels here.

I-395 junction with D St. SW: Currently waypoint 8. Posted NB as exit 6, but posted SB as exit 8. No point relabels here, either.

I-695 junction with I-295/DC 295: Currently waypoint I-295/295. Now posted as exits 2A and 2B. Relabeled 2A, since there is an exit 2 on WB I-695 to M St. SE.

I-695 WB exit to 8th St. SE: Posted in the field as exit 1D. I chose to treat it as part of 6th St. SE interchange less than 0.3 mile to the east, to avoid confusion from a waypoint 1D between waypoints 1B and 1C.

I-695 junction with I-395 SB: Still an unnumbered exit. Ramp to I-395 NB is exit 1C, but that exit number is posted in the field on EB I-695 for new interchange for Southeast Blvd. (de-freewayized former I-295 segment). I relabeled old SEFwy waypoint as 1C, and left waypoint I-395 intact.

Other I-695 relabels (labels in use retained as alternate labels):

CapStSE => 1A
6thSt => 1B
MStSE => 2
