New bypasses, business routes, and minor mysteries in Watford City, Alexander, and New Town.
OSM is at varying stages of accuracy/reliability for mapping all this stuff out as yet. While we wait for it to improve, a few things to sort out:
Over on AARoads, I wrote: | Watford City:
The Watford City bypass opened at the end of October. US 85 is rerouted onto the southwest bypass, with the old route becoming US 85 Business.
I presume that ND 23 is rerouted onto the southeast bypass. My question is, what becomes of the existing ND23 into downtown Watford City, and ND 23 Truck?
Alexander:
US85 is rerouted onto a western bypass of Alexander. A business route via the old alignment has been approved by AASHTO.
If the Goog is to be believed (and here I don't see why not) ND 200 has been rerouted onto the bypass too. So, is US 85 Bus US 85 Bus only, or is it also a ND 200A, ND 200 Alt, ND 200Bus, or something?
New Town:
As of November 17, 2014, the New Town Truck Reliever Route is now open.
Is the Truck Reliever Route ND 1804 Truck? ND 1804 proper? ND 1804 Alt / ND 1804A? Something else? Nothing?
Is the old/existing route of ND 1804 thru town still ND 1804 proper? ND 1804 Bus, Alt, A, other, nothing?
-----
I'm not aware of any precedent for ND state highway business routes. Though there is one ND23 Truck (as signed in the field. OSM and even NDDOT maps show it as ND 23A) and a couple ND 200A / 200 Alts. |

OSM traces are now of good enough quality to make the edits.
But... what of the designations?
Alexander:
I can go ahead and relocate US85/ND200, and add US85Bus. If we find that US85Bus is also ND200A/Alt/Bus/etc., that can be added in later.
Edited US85 & ND200; added US85BusAle
New Town:
It appears that existing designations have not changed. OSM shows the reliever route as ND23B. No success yet in opening up the Mountrail sheet 2 county base map PDF. The NDDOT QuickMap shows it only as plain ND23, but it also shows "ND23A" (ND23TrkWat) as such. I bet once I get the county map open, it'll show ND23B.
I'm hesitant to add the route as ND23B, as ND23A is signed in the field as ND23Trk. This may be another similar case, with ND23B being just an internal designation...
Watford City:
It appears ND23 is on the SE bypass. I have to figure out what's happened to the old ND23 and ND23Trk.

Eric, I see you've implemented the Alexander changes to US 85 and ND 200 in the Travel Mapping database. What about Watford City? _________________ my Hot Springs and Highways pages (NEW LOCATION), with links to my roads sites:

I'll ask SD Mapman on AARoads for some more info on how to best handle this. |
