Officially happened June 8, according to KAAL. Now uses US 52 and CR 14 on the north side of Rochester.

This was reported last year after it was approved by AASHTO. I sent a file update to Tim at the time (since I still "had Minnesota" before my deployment then) pending the actual change.

UPDATE: I'm in Rochester tonight. New 63 is not signed at all on/along US 52, or 14 as it intersects 52. Which means I'll have to come back for it sometime. (Will see the north end of the bypass later.)

It could be worse, and in fact is since I missed two components of US 63 in Wisconsin because of bridge construction, but at least the issues are southerly.

We went through on Saturday evening, and ended up taking Broadway (the 'old 63') instead of 52 to get through Rochester because of a crash on 52. 63 is indeed still signed all the way through Rochester on Broadway as it has been for years.

A couple of notes: 1) rerouting 63 onto 52 adds 4.7 miles to someone's trip through town on 63 (although it will likely be faster), and 2) US63 is a joke in SE MN in general. The shortest (and by far the fastest) route from Stewartville to Red Wing (both of which are on 63) is US52 to MN58. I can't help but feel frustrated every time I see that on a map.

I'm interested to see what happens to 63 in the Rochester area. In my opinion, it would be nice to have a sort of eastern bypass of the city that would utilize East Circle Dr (already a 4-lane) and make more sense for the US63 through traffic.

As far as I know, neither the city nor Olmsted County (the latter of which "owns" both halves of Circle Drive) have plans to significantly extend East Circle Drive south of US 14. In fact, a local "extension" already exists but only to serve adjacent residential development and a golf course. MnDOT's focus in the area is on the existing routes. The only potential state route expansion in the future would be extending MN 42 south to US 52.

I got an e-mail back from the Minnesota DOT today. The signs will not change until next spring. So this should be held off until later.

Can you send me that E-mail? Curious as to whom at MnDOT it came from.

Tim, in light of this, please hold off on updating the US 52 and US 63 lists I sent. I've also moved this thread to the 6-month outlook folder since it's more appropriate there now.

The route is now signed as they indicated. Google Maps reflects this. It goes up to CR14 then heads east. I think I put this as an update in the Updates thread. Can someone close that one (if not already) thanks.
