Minutes of the recent meeting.
There's quite a few AZ changes approved, for instance. And NC/VA extension of US311. Plus conditional approval of I-41 in IL/MN and a lot of I-69 related stuff in TX. |

Let's see how long it takes for NC to sign this extension of US 311. The last extension didn't get signed for years.
US 131 bypass and business routes around Constantine MI has been approved, but the construction hasn't really begun yet. This may be done by 2014, but I wouldn't hold my breath. _________________ Dave Filpus

I-41 over US 41? EWWWWW.
Why is Wisconsin stopping this "I-41" at the SE I-894 interchange? Why not replace I-894 completely? (At least, as I appear to understand it.) |

It's far from yucky - actually sensible (though if IL have proposed a tiny bit, then they could have gone with a number that currently ends at Chicago, then again, it doesn't deal with the Tollway authority). Quote: | Why is Wisconsin stopping this "I-41" at the SE I-894 interchange? Why not replace I-894 completely? (At least, as I appear to understand it.) | Nope - it's going from I-43 in Green Bay to this interchange: http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=42.478981018066406&lon=-87.94770240783691&zoom=16
Quote: | The route beings at US 41/I-43 Interchange in Green Bay. It follows US 41 south to the US 41/US 45 split in the northwest part of Milwaukee, and then following US 45, I-894, and I-94/US-41 to the Wisconsin/Illinois state border. It travels over an existing Interstate and US Highways southerly to Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, Fon du Lac, and Milwaukee a total of 171.5 miles and ends at the Wisconsin/Illinois state border. IH-41 is proposed to follow US 41 from the US 41/I-43 Interchange in Green Bay south to the US 41/US 45 split near Richfield then follow US 45to the Zoon Interchange (I-94/I-894, then follow I-894 to the Mitchell Interchange (I-94/I-894) and then follow US 41/I-94 south to the Wisconsin/Illinois state border. |
Quote: | Begins at the Wisconsin/Illinois state border following USH 41/IH-94 to the USH 41/IH-94 interchange south of Russell Road/County Highway 19. Travels over an existing Interstate and US Highways Southerly covering 0.9 and ends at the USH 41/IH-94 interchange. IH-41 is proposed to follow USH 41/IH-94 from the Wisconsin/Illinois state border south to the USH 41/IH-94 interchange. No letter included showing the member department has contacted FHWA. AASHTO to prepare information letter to FHWA headquarters and copying Illinois. South of Russell Road/County Highway 19. |
or, modified slightly and not repeated a second time:
Code: | In WI, IH-41 is proposed to follow US 41 from the US 41/I-43 Interchange in Green Bay south, via Appleton, Oshkosh and Font du Lac, to the US 41/US 45 split near Richfield then follow US 45 to the Zoo Interchange (I-94/I-894), then follow I-894 in Milwaukee to the Mitchell Interchange (I-94/I-894) and then follow US 41/I-94 south to the Wisconsin/Illinois state border. It will be a total of 171.5 miles long.
In IL, IH-41 is proposed to follow USH 41/IH-94 from the Wisconsin/Illinois state border for 0.9 miles south to the USH 41/IH-94 interchange south of Russell Road/County Highway 19. IL has not submitted this to FHWA. |

Looked to me like it overlapped 894 and 94 to the IL line, then overlaps 94 till the US41 interchange.
So lemme get this straight... A long useless multiplex with I-94 and US41 -- then just stops when US41 splits off? YECCH! |

Interesting. At least I-99 wasn't called I-220.
Is the "C" in I-69C analogous to the letter-suffixed US business routes across Texas?
Are the individual applications available anywhere for this meeting's apps?
===========
All the AZ, IN, and MD items are already implemented, both in those states and in CHM. These apps must be catching up with what the states already have done with signs. Why is NC always behind? |

TXDOT Designation Files don't seem to bear that out.
Weirder yet, it looks as if they might be bringing the long-deprecated letter-suffixed interstates back from the dead... (WTF?)

This is pretty silly. yakra wrote: | Looked to me like it overlapped 894 and 94 to the IL line, then overlaps 94 till the US41 interchange. | I'd imagine 894 gets removed after they've done it - that there is a route description seeking approval for implementing the number. Once implemented, then they don't need I-894 and can have it removed (you also don't want your removal approved and not your replacement number). Quote: | So lemme get this straight... A long useless multiplex with I-94 and US41 -- then just stops when US41 splits off? YECCH! | I don't see what the problem is - think of it as US41(I) if you need to get your head around this good bit of numbering (good to see IL engaged their brains to suggest that 1 mile section south of the border, rather than have the route magically change shield colour at the state line).
Also means that half the Chicago-Millwaukee gets the north-south interstate signage it's long been begging for, as well as the ability to totally remove US41 shields between IL and Green Bay. It might annoy the numbering purists, but the average road user would like it. |
