A new segment of WV 9 opened yesterday, replacing the curvy old Charles Town Road alignment between US 340 and the WV/VA state line. I drove it earlier today.
The new alignment (no posted name as yet) is shown in OSM and MQOpenMap. It has no interchanges besides the one with US 340, but two at-grade intersections with numbered county roads between US 340 and the state line, CR 9/3 (Cattail Run Rd.) and CR 32 (Chestnut Hill Rd.). The state line signs are less than 100 meters east of the Chestnut Hill intersection.
With the relocation of WV 9, the old Charles Town Rd. alignment has now been added to WV 115, and is signed as such (at least, so far, at its western end). The new WV 115 segment connects to the realigned WV 9 at the latter's Chestnut Hill Rd. intersection. |

Thanks for the info Oscar.
I've also notice that in OSM that the West Virginia and Virginia border is way off compared to every other map service. Too bad there is no easy way to fix that in OSM, but luckily, the Appalachian Trail crosses WV-9/VA-9 right at the border, so I can use it's location to at least put the WV/VA border point in the correct area. |

Additionally, my fault (sorry), but there's a missing shaping point on WV9 near KerPk. |

I'll make sure to add a point in that area when I get the chance to submit my update for the new alignment. |

Oscar, to be honest, I'm not feeling 100% on extending WV-115 along the old segment of WV-9. If you can get me some proof from the Eastern end that it was extended, I'd be more than happy to extend it, but I just want to be 100% on this change before I do it. |

I'm not planning on going out that way anytime in the next few months. Maybe one of the other denizens of the aaroads forum can report on whatever signage WVDOT adds at the eastern end of WV 9 once it's finished cleaning up the tie-in with the old WV 9 alignment.
But the signage at US 340 seems clear enough -- WV 115 extends both west and east of the interchange with US 340, and there is a WV 115 reassurance marker just east of the ramps from and to northbound US 340. And there's no obvious logical endpoint for the WV 115 extension, short of WV 9.
I suggest going ahead with the changes to WV 9, even if you hold off on WV 115. |

Agreed. Have the fixes done for US-340 and WV-9 and will send them in a few to Tim. |

There was no change in signage as of yesterday, although I did not actually drive on old WV 9....just the new segment. _________________ Froggie

Same thing happens with WV-23 @ US-50, but from all I can tell, WV-23 doesn't continue South of US-50. |

The changes to WV 9 made it into the Updates list, but not the HB. The changes to US 340 made it into both. |

The update to WV-9 was submitted with US-340's. I just double checked the e-mail I sent Tim, and the updated file was in there.
Only thing I can think that happen was that Tim forgot to upload the updated WV-9 file. However, he did update WV-115's file (updated the ending label from US340/9 > US340). Tim, can you comment please? |

This is still the status of the WV 115 signing as of this weekend. It's crystal clear that WV 115 continues east* of US 340, and there is no sign saying 115 at or near the intersection with new and old WV 9 near the VA state border. I did not travel on the section in dispute though -- only at its ends.
*Signed as NORTH-SOUTH, even though a change to WEST-EAST might make more sense if the extension is intended. |

As I've mentioned before, this same thing happens with WV-23. If signage @ WV-9 changes and shields are added there or the official state map shows WV-115 being extended, I'll extend the highway in the HB. |

Well, it looks like WV-115 wasn't extended if this sign is correct. StreetView was there in September '13, so, if WV-115 was going to be extended, I would think we'd have seen signs at the possible 'Eastern' end. |
