Yestersay, I spotted and drove a signed US 30 Truck route in the Buckstown area, that isn't in the Highway Browser nor (I think) covered in previous threads on new PA truck routes.
This one is well-defined, and follows existing US and state routes already in the HB. Going westbound, at Reels Corners the truck route turns south on PA 160, then west on PA 31, then north on PA 281, then north on US 219 to rejoin US 30 near Ferrellton.
I took photos of signage at key junctions, which I can post or link here if needed.
My guess is that this truck route is to steer big trucks around two bridges with 32-ton weight limits near Buckstown, and is so long and goes so far south of US 30 (dipping south of the PA Turnpike, and passing through Somerset) only because there aren't any better heavy truck-ready routes in the area.
The truck route also avoids some steep and twisty stretches of US 30, but not the worst stretches west of US 219. Signs on US 219 northbound advise truckers heading to westbound US 30 to take the Turnpike west to Donegal, to avoid those stretches. Nevertheless, US 30 Truck signage continues on US 219 all the way to US 30, rather than following the recommended detour through Donegal. Nor did I see any signage at the PA 711 junction with US 30 indicating the PA 711 north from Donegal is part of an additional signed US 30 Truck route. |
