When the US 68 Bypass is opened around Maysville, it appears that both US 62 and US 68 are going to be rerouted in Kentucky and Ohio. The road was supposed to open in December, but has been postponed.

US 68 will be rerouted along the bypass, crossing but not interchanging with US 62.

US 62 is going to be routed back onto US 62/68 Business through Maysville KY and Aberdeen OH. This means that US 62 and US 68 will not multiplex in KY. US 62 Business will be decommissioned in KY and OH. It appears that OH may be decommissioning US 62 Business also, but KY is not.

In the mapper, Ohio US 62/68 Business Aberdeen are labeled Alternate. This will be fixed when the routing of US 62 is changed. If OH does decommission both routes, this will become moot.

If US-62 is going to be rerouted back onto the "Business" route, don't they have to get approval from the AASHTO since this is a multi-state change?

According to hbelkins, Kentucky usually does not submit to AASHTO until after the fact.

According to this press release, http://transportation.ky.gov/District-9/Press%20Releases/2013-02-11%20US%2068%20Open.pdf , the bypass opened February 11 2013.

According to hbelkins, the sign crews are resigning the former US 62/68 route on the Kentucky side. The Ohio side has not changed.

His assessment of the signage is that US 68 is being rerouted along the bypass. US 62 is being rerouted along US 62/68 Business to the old bridge. The old US 62 and 68 Business are being decommissioned. A new US 68 Business is being signed along the segment of former US 68 between the bypass and US 62.

The next data update will show rerouted US 62, rerouted US 68, deleted US 62 Business/US 68 Business in Maysville, and new US 68 Business in Old Washington.

The Old Washington business route might not be complete, with the south end at US 68 and the north end at KY 9/KY 10 instead of at US 68 somewhere else. The KYTC maps wouldn't show a longer US 68 Business if it did connect to US 68 by following either KY 9/KY 10 west or US 62 north.

I'm seeking more info about the extent of US 68 Business signs to confirm that Elkins has it right.
