An article in today's Washington Post features a new toll road under construction along part of MX 40 between Durango and Mazatlan, including the record-setting cable-stayed Baluarte Bicentennial Bridge which is a quarter-mile above the Baluarte river. The article has a photo of the new bridge and a map of the new road, which it says could open as soon as late 2012. It's unclear from the article whether the new road will get its own route number or just take over the existing MX 40 designation.

Probably the old road will remain MEX 40 and the new road will be MEX 40D. That is quite a bridge.
