Took a long roadtrip out west this past week, noticed a few inconsistencies from the HB.

I noticed that the split of US16 in Newcastle, WY wasn't accounted for in the HB. Granted, there are some inconsistancies in the signage, so what to call each route may be up for debate. What I do remember: regular standalone US16 signage followed the route through downtown, where the one standalone sign I saw for the other route was labeled "BYPASS".

Anyway, the two different routes should probably be in the HB.

Thanks for the help in WY. Bannered routes have been almost impossible to do or even find without field checks. Based on your information and a quck GMSV trip, I'll run the mainline through town and a 'BYP' along the truck bypass. Corrections to be done next week.

AARoads pics and 2009 (not 2007) GMSV suggest that US 16 is on the bypass and US 16 Business is the downtown routing. The signing isn't consistent, as noted in the first post.

I can't find any useful maps from WYDOT. Do they have any online?

I stumbled across an interactive GIS mapper there a few years back. Don't remember it being especially enlightening.
OK, here we go: http://gis.wyoroad.info/PublicViewer/process?cmd=viewer
Yeah, look at what they've labeled "US 16 Bus" Sad

It's hard to believe that map.

This hasn't been dealt with, so I will now.

Looking at more recent GMSV (Aug 2012/2013):
Signs calling the route through the town 'business' US16
1, 2

Signs calling the route around the town 'truck' US16
1, 2, 3

Signs calling the route around the town 'bypass' US16
1, 2 (note that this sign said truck in 2012, but bypass in 2013), 3, 4, 5

Signs calling the route through the town plain US16
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

Therefore, I believe that we have a Bypass US 16 route for the road around the town - it was formerly a truck route.

PS: sorry that google maps sucks and I can't work out how to have hideable GMSV links without using tinyURL (or a similar site)!

I drove through Newcastle last week. US 16 mainline is routed through downtown and the bypass goes along the edge.

thanks the_spui_ninja, that confirms what I thought was the case from my GMSV research. You'll be able to clinch them soon, as the update is submitted.
