PennDOT is ready to post shields for the extension of I-99 up to I-80. My guess is when the final section is complete be the end of this year. Still don't know if a bill has passed threw Congress to officially extend it yet. However, there are several places that I-99 is mentioned around the State College area. On a recent trip, I saw two travel warning signs with I-99 shields on them uncovered already. Also a few other signs with I-99 shields on them, but with plywood covering them.

The highway is supposed to be open by the end of the year. Possibly that means by the end of the paving season (October?). The US 322 bridge over the unpaved mainline is supposed to open very soon, then they can finish up the freeway around Skytop and PA 550.

I've wondered if the I-80 interchange and Jacksonville Road intersection would have an effect on the I-99 designation. Isn't there some restriction that interstate designations must begin/end at NHS highways? If so, could the designation only go as far north as the PA 26 south interchange near Bellefonte? Or is this irrelevant for a designation written into law?

There is an "END" blue tab at the I-80 interchange waiting for an I-99 shield to go under it.

Northbound lanes will open next Thurs.
Southbound lanes will open by Thanksgiving.

I'm going to put off making changes to the data files until the whole thing opens in Nov.

About time. Very Happy

Don't forget when you do make the changes to not forget to add a "closed" point for the "current" end of the highway for people that have clinched the NB lanes the way they are setup right now (like me Razz). Wink

The interesting loose end I've been waiting for PennDOT to clear up is what happens to Business US 220. The old US 220 and 322 designations won't be replaced north of Bald Eagle, and Alt US 220 vanished awhile ago. So it might be reconnected to the US 220 freeway at the PA 350 interchange, or maybe since it's not even signed through Tyrone or to the north except for its end, it could get truncated and connected to US 220 further south.

As of last night, all the I-99 shields are posted and visible northbound from Port Matilda through to I-80. This includes an "End I-99" marker approx. 1/2 mile AFTER the road has it's first at-grade interchange near the turns to get onto I-80. No shields are posted southbound as of yet anywhere until Bald Eagle (Exit 52).

Thanks for the report lkefct. We will be adding it to the site once the SB lanes are open @ Skytop.

8 days till this will happen Tim. I think it's safe to add the extension sometime this week (maybe on Friday) to the site in anticipation of it happening. Smile

Ok, baring any late change of plan by PENNDOT, I-99 will be fully open on Tuesday. I think it is safe to add to the site now Tim because of that. Smile Just remember to update both US-220 and US-322's files with the now approbate I-99 exit numbers for the interchanges. Very Happy Wink

And don't forget to add in the temporary interchange for all three routes where the highway ended for the past three years as "closed". Wink
