I saw a few dozen I-99 shields in total on BGSs and roadside sign assemblies along the route NB and SB and at the approaches from PA 350, I-80, and US 322's two junctions. I-99 is well signed from head to toe now. |
I thought new legislation would have to be passed to get the designation extended but I couldn't find anything. Maybe PennDOT didn't feel like waiting and figured it would be less confusing than having the 99 shields disappear at Bald Eagle.

It would take a major design exception to get the last half mile to I-80 designated Interstate-compatible, and it's almost pointless because the future interchange won't send I-99 on that road anyway. |
Spur routes can end anywhere, but as for 99, since it is just temporary and 80 is practically right there, it doesn't matter. The last design for the Y-interchange I saw which is linked on my page had the ramps starting just south of Musser Lane. _________________ Jeff Kitsko

The local newspaper (Centre Daily Times) has mentioned that legislation would have to be passed to get the I-99 designation extended. They also mentioned that the I-80 interchange was redesigned after the Skytop pyrite mess was uncovered because I-80 runs through pyrite, too. So the design was tweaked to minimize the amountn of pyrite that will need to be unearthed. I have not found an updated interchange map. |

Alright, I'm going to lock this thread now. If anybody somehow sees the "END I-99" shield move again from it's current location, please PM me and I'll unlock this thread. Either that or make a new topic on it. |
