I'm not finding a description of the route on ODOT, so hopefully I can puzzle this out as I get ready to amend the I-84 file (point relocations, shape point additions).
The big question is where is the exact western terminus of I-84? The quick answer is I-5(301)... but I'm not convinced of this. I-84 has direct access to the Morrison Bridge, and the ramps from I-5 north are at I-5(300A), technically putting the Water Ave offramp on I-84, not I-5.
The quick and dirty:
Eastbound: I-5(300_S)
Water Ave
Morrison Bridge onramp
US30 merge
MLK Jr Blvd onramp
16th Ave onramp
33rd Ave offramp
etc.
Westbound: 33rd Ave onramp
Lloyd Blvd offramp
US30 split
City Center/Morrison Bridge offramp
I-5 merge/END
To make things a little more complicated, US 30 westbound has an exit to NE 1st Ave between splitting from I-84 and merging with I-5. There is no onramp to the eastbound flyover (a direct connection to the Steel Bridge when it existed). I'm not sure a point would be needed, but...
Andy, can you offer your opinion on this, and Tim, should I bother with the extra interchange points? |

The west end of I-84 looks fine as-is to me.
The points east of that......was I on crack? I think the old Terraserver-USA coordinates really let me down there. At least, I can't imagine doing that poor a job with Google Maps unless they screwed up the coords-map connections in Oregon like they did in Alaska. I'd agree that I-84 and US 30 could use a good overhaul. |

What's amusing is that we have a 8 mile deficit, and that I-84 has 376 posted miles, though all the exits and mileposts east of I-205 are based off the Mt Hood Freeway and I-205 duplex alignments.
When all is said and done, we should have 374 miles for I-84. |

Well keep in mind that we have a 2% fudge factor built in. A perfectly traced 300 mile highway will appear to have 306 mi. |

You also have to account for equations in the route invertory. There's a 1.5 mile gap around I-205. On US-101 there's a 12 mile gap near Bandon.

The ODOT road inventory for the Columbia River Hwy (hwy 2) which I-84 and US-30 follow to its western end, ends on the north half ramps with I-5. I would leave the endpoint for I-84 at the interchange with I-5. The extra ramp from the ramp to NB I-5 can be logged there also since you are getting off I-84 there and you aren't getting onto I-5.
As for the stuff south of there, I think only a point, in the I-5 route file, at the Morrison Bridge (SB I-5 does have an exit there) and a shaping point at the east end of the Marquam Bridge are necessary. The Water Ave. exit can be considered the NB I-5 exit for the Morrison Bridge

128 shape points later... x.x I-84's patched up, all collisions with OR 100, US 30 (when on separate alignment), the Columbia River (and more importantly, the OR/WA border!) and other parallel highways have been eliminated. |

Tim, I've sent in the overhauls for Oregon's Interstates and US Highways. |

And one last bit if you haven't done it already: Could you note on the updates page that the .lists will need updating, particularly for I-84?
I'm thinking something along these lines:
I-5: Lots of shape points added. Exit 27 closed. Exit 26 added (South Medford Interchange). Point adjustments in Portland area.
I-84: Shape points added. Eliminated instance of route crossing into Washington in Columbia River Gorge. Points adjusted/added in Portland; terminus at I-5 adjusted. Exits unnumbered in field marked as "(x)". Resubmit list file if included.
I-205: Shape points added. Adjusted point location for Exit 22. Exit (7) added.
US 30: Shape and exit points added/adjusted as per duplex with I-84. I-84's field unnumbered exits marked as 'I-84[x]'. Points added or renamed in Astoria and along Lower Columbia River Highway portion (northwest of Portland). Split from I-84 at exit 342 clarified; I-84(345) renamed MalLineRd. Resubmit list file if included.
US 97: Route rerouted along Redmond Bypass in Redmond. |

I'm thinking Tim will not be liking those Unnumbered Exits on I-84 using a "x" in the line. |

It looks like I-84 got messed up.
There was supposed to be one point for the I-5 interchange, not 3. One point per interchange, not one per ramp. Don't trace one pair of ramps at a an interchange.
The 0 label can't be deleted. If you want to change it to I-5 (a better choice than I-5(301)), that's fine, but you have to keep and hide the 0 point so it doesn't break the route on everyone's maps.
When there's no exit number for an Interstate interchange, use the abbreviated cross road name. Same for concurrent US 30 then, just use the cross road name w/o mention of I-84. But are you sure there is no exit number for these? It seems odd that there wouldn't be.
The point locations and shaping look much better though. |

Ok, will tweak. May take a day or two.
And I can confirm the lack of interchange number at (60) in particular. |

(60) is a farm access exit, no exit number. Now MorRd.
(65) is a state park access; I can't recall if that one was unnumbered. Now KorBeaStPrk.
(72) is a rest area, which through the gorge, at least, do get exit numbers (since most rest areas are part of the many state parks).
Might be better to make (72) into a shape point, thinking about it. |

Per StreetView, it shows that as a "Rest Area".
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=45.703029,-121.476533&spn=0,359.993032&z=18&layer=c&cbll=45.703084,-121.476648&panoid=MaRsO4lrNpvSay6lOmUNHg&cbp=12,306.25,,0,1.47
Also, since there seems to be really no way to but to get back on @ that exit, I even think it could be made hidden since Tim doesn't really care about "Rest Area" exits unless they are truly exits and people can "completely" leave the Interstate and are not forced to get back on at the same point. |
