While in British Columbia recently I ran across a TCH-1 Business in Chase, BC.

It is posted at each end from TCH-1...

Thanks! I'll follow up later, once I check in later this trip to a motel with a better Internet connection (I can't view the GMSV images right now), and in any event once I'm back home in a few weeks.

There are TCH business routes in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, but those are suffixed rather than bannered routes (two 1As and a 16A in Manitoba, 16A and 16B in Saskatchewan).

Well Oscar, I looked at the links, and they clearly use banners for 'Business' & 'Bypass' with normal TCH-1 shields.

Yep. The other thing I couldn't tell is whether those route markers are on a part of the TCH I re-traveled in 2012 (they aren't).

Other things for me to check out (later) include which roads the route follows, and also why I can't find it on the recently-updated (in April 2014) official list of BC numbered routes.

I noticed other stuff, then, that is in conflict with the official route list you linked...

There are still BC 7 postings at BC 99 and BC 1A.

BC 1A is posted east of the described endpoint.

I saw some BC 99A postings and may have seen a 7A posting.

The BC 1A on Victoria Island was not posted on the north end for sure, not sure on the south end.

BC 99 is posted prominently on Oak St at multiple locations north of 70th.

Here's what I've found so far:

-- While GMSV shows signage on the TCH mainline for the business route, the part of Shuswap Ave. on GMSV (part of it is uncovered) doesn't show any business TCH signage on that route.

-- Official signage logs note the TCH Business sign assembly on the west side of Chase, which has been there since at least 2011. This suggests, at least, that the signage was erected by the provincial transportation ministry rather than by local officials.

-- Those logs indicate that Shuswap Ave. in Chase is not a provincially-maintained route, without even a secret route designation as is used for some other routes. But I would not make much of this. For example, California most business routes (including Interstate and U.S. business routes) are state-recognized but locally-maintained and not part of the state highway system, with Caltrans maintaining business route signage only on the mainline to point travelers to the business route.

-- BC has few if any other signed business routes of any kind, even for ordinary provincial highways, so there aren't a lot of data points (or anything else I've found so far) on BC's policies re: business routes. There is a "Hope Business Route" including a bypassed former TCH alignment there, but on the part that was removed from TCH 1, it's signed only textually without a numbered or other kind of route marker.

-- While Shuswap Ave. in Chase may once been part of the TCH, I've not seen any evidence the TCH bypass route was added recently.

My bottom line is that we should add TCH 1 Business in Chase to the queue for additions to the Highway Browser, without further research. I'll go ahead and draft a new route file, and revisions to the existing TCH 1 route file, accordingly.
