I'm back from Hawaii, including some time on the four largest islands.
Aside from the rerouting of HI 200 on the Big Island (previously reported here, and changes already in the HB), the other change requiring major route updates to CHM in Hawaii is the split of HI 31 on Maui, to transfer its North Kihei Road segment to HI 310. That segment has long been technically HI 310, but had been signed as part of HI 31, so it was included in the HI 31 route file. Now all the HI 31 signage is gone from the North Kihei Road segment, and it is consistently signed only as HI 310. I'll send in revised route files in a few days.
Elsewhere on Maui, a short segment of HI 3000 (Lahaina Bypass) is open, and another segment looks ready to open soon. However, the route is basically unsigned (only HI 3000 route signage is small number plates on milemarkers, which we don't count as "signed"). The plan down the road is to move HI 30 to the bypass once it's complete, and perhaps sign the bypassed part of the old route as HI 3000. However, that's a few years away at best, so no change is needed for CHM at this point other than to add waypoints to the HI 30 route file for the connectors to the open or soon-to-open parts of HI 3000.
Also, a new road bypassing a congested part of HI 380 in Kahului is now almost complete between HI 311 and HI 36. However, it has no route number signage, and it's unclear whether it is or will be part of the long-planned HI 3800 bypass to the Kahului airport. So other than new waypoints on HI 311 and HI 36, nothing to be done at this point. |
