Seems like US 285 passes through, with Truck US 285 taking the "Relief Route" bypass:

Usually the Truck Route is the highway that goes around, not through a city, right?

Unfortunately the Street View images at the western and southern junctions of the Relief Route are pretty useless.

Or, possibly, there is no N-S signed route through the city at all. This page provides some info, although it isn't official:

Quote:
TRUCK - The "Relief Route" around the west side of Roswell, completed in the 1990s, was marked as "Truck" U.S. 70 and 285, while the original route for these highways through central Roswell continues to be marked as the U.S. route mainlines as of 2007. The state has relinquished both U.S. 70 and 285 through Roswell, placing those routes onto the relief route, and AASHTO has approved this move.

Either way, the highway the site calls "Truck US 285" in Roswell is probably not.

I am unable to confirm or deny the existence of US 285 Truck.

Jim, can you find out anything new about US 285 in Roswell?

I also can't find evidence of signage on GMSV. I think we are correct by routing 285 around town on the relief route. Maybe the truck route should be deleted here.

The NMDOT documents I have been working with are not helpful here. They are state routes only, not US or I.

I'm kind of "nearby" (in Deming NM at the moment), but I'm unlikely to revisit Roswell on this trip, so don't wait for me.

Alright, here goes...

It's a little confusing as to what's going on around Roswell, particularly on the relief route, but the one thing I'm confident of is that, according to local signage, mainline routes go through town, US285 using Main, US380 using 2nd, US70 using pieces of each. Signage for each is in town, unbannered.

It looks as though the relief route is a series of truck routes. A BGS where WB US70 intersects US285 refers to US70/US285 Truck Route. There are also shields with truck banners on the route, placing US285Trk using the whole route and US70Trk using the northern half. What's confusing is there's also signage for a US380 truck route along a piece of the relief route. Going SB on the relief route from it's presumed start at US70/380, it went a mile S, and turned E down McGaffey, where all signage for the route, other than generic "TRUCK ROUTE" signage, promptly disappeared.

So my opinion/summation is this, from signage in town: Place the main routes (US70, 285, 380) through town, put US285Trk and US70Trk in the HB, but leave US380Trk omitted, as (IMO) it's most likely a more local truck route that happened to get bannered on the relief route.

New GMSV imagery also confirms all of this, so I have submitted a relocation of US 70 and US 285 to go through Roswell, US 285 Truck onto the relief route, and the addition of US 70 Truck onto the relief route. Also a newsworthy change of labels on US 380 is included in the update.

These changes are all now in the HB.
